What is it?
A map-based system that allows a well owner or driller to register new or existing wells online.  Interactive maps of Pecos County allow the user to:

Some information does not display unless you zoom in to a pre-specified scale.  For instance, when the map initially displays you don't see wells, small roadways, or aerial photography.  As you zoom in with by selecting the  tool and clicking the map or dragging a rectangle on the map, the wells, roadways and the aerial photography layers will either become visible or can be turned on.

How do I find the location of a well?
In order to register a well, the latitude/longitude coordinates of the well must be provided.  The mapping system contains roadways and aerial photography that can help the registrant find the location of a well.  If the well can be located by a street address, the registrant can type in the address and, if the address if found, the map will zoom in to the location of that address.

There are icons above the map that help the registrant navigate the map.  To activate an icon, just single-click it.  The navigation icons are described below:

  Zoom in with a single mouse-click or hold down the left mouse button to draw a rectangle to zoom in to a specific area.

Pan around the map by holding the left mouse button down and moving the hand

  Prompts the user for a physical address: If the address is found, the map will automatically zoom to that location


How do I determine latitude/longitude coordinates of a location?
Once the location of interest is visible on the map, click the  button. Once this button has been clicked, single-click the map on the location you're interested in.  The frame to the right of the map will show the coordinates of that point in degrees|minutes|seconds, as well as the surface elevation.  A point is also placed on the map that shows the coordinates in decimal degrees.

Before registration information can be entered, you must either already know the latitude/longitude coordinates of the well location, or you must navigate to the location.
